A new network group for top LGBT executives is launching today, aimed at getting more gay and trans people to the head of the boardroom table, it’s boss, Suki Sandhu explains more

Two questions troubled me recently: Why are there no openly gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender executives leading any of the FTSE 100 companies? And secondly, when I attend many of the otherwise excellent existing LGBT business networks do I never see people at senior executive level?

Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber Released Business Equality Survey

PHOENIX (April 15, 2013)--Today the Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (GPGLCC) announced the results of its six-month survey measuring how equitably local business treat their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) employees. Valley businesses with up to 500 employees, government agencies with more than 500 employees and local offices of larger companies were invited to participate. Nineteen employers scored a 100 on the survey and 45 scored an 80 percent or higher. In addition to publishing the results, the GPGLCC has produced a buying guide of companies that embrace diversity.  Read more »

Gay civil rights in Flagstaff on move

The city of Flagstaff is moving forward on an anti-discrimination ordinance that for the first time would cover sexual orientation, gender identity and veterans in employment and public accommodations

Exempted would be religious-based organizations, "expressive groups" like the Boy Scouts and, at least for the moment, businesses with fewer than 15 employees.

Kathryn Jim, president of Northern Arizona Pride Association, said she was happy with the Council action on Tuesday. Read more »

Group honors LGBT business leaders

Group honors LGBT business leaders

Twelve people and businesses in metro Phoenix will be honored Friday at the second annual Spotlight on Success Local Heroes Awards.

The event is sponsored by Phoenix-based ONE Community, a group that promotes partnerships between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and businesses.

This year’s theme, “The Year of the Woman, Celebrating our Past, Present, and Future,” will honor longtime couple Nelda Majors and Karen Bailey, who started a physical-therapy consulting business in 1975 in Texas, said Angela Hughey, ONE Community’s president and co-founder. Both are now retired.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is scheduled to speak at the luncheon event at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. Read more »

Chick-Fil-A President Dan Cathy caused quite a stir with his anti-gay marriage stance, but the chicken chain executive wasn’t the first to enter his opinion -- and cash -- into the gay marriage debate. Executives ranging from Microsoft founder Bill Gates to General Mills CEO Ken Powell have donated money to support same-sex marriage efforts, while Cathy was joined by Amway president Doug DeVos in his vocal and expensive opposition to gay marriage.
