Eight Mesa police officers and two Maricopa County sheriff's deputies were cheered Saturday as they demonstrated their commitment to diversity by marching in uniform in the Phoenix Pride Parade.
The officers and deputies were the first ever to march in uniform and represent their departments in the annual event to celebrate gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons. Phoenix police officers have previously marched in plainclothes to represent other organizations.
