Newt Gingrich On Mitt Romney: 'I Would Have Probably Done Better' Against Obama

Newt Gingrich On Mitt Romney: 'I Would Have Probably Done Better' Against Obama

Newt Gingrich blames Mitt Romney for being a bad candidate.

More than that, he blames the Republican party for fostering a corrosive culture that produced Romney as its candidate. The former House Speaker argued that the GOP has grown stale and introverted, putting itself on the wrong side of history on issues like immigration and painting itself into a corner on others, like gay marriage.

Romney's failed candidacy was just the latest illustration of this, the 69-year-old Gingrich said in hour-long interview that dealt, in large part, with the GOP’s problems and what he hopes to contribute to their solution. Read more »

Gallup Special Report: The LGBT Vote in the 2012 Presidential Election

Gallup Special Report: The LGBT Vote in the 2012 Presidential Election

A new Gallup Report finds that 71% of LGBT Americans who are registered voters support President Obama for reelection, while 22% support Governor Mitt Romney. From June to September, non-LGBT registered voters preferred Romney to Obama by one percentage point, 47% to 46%. However, when LGBT voters are added to electorate, Obama moves slightly ahead of Romney (47% to 45%).  These findings suggest that the highly Democratic vote of the LGBT population could be enough to swing a very close election toward Obama.

The findings are based on more than 120,000 interviews of adults in the US, which represents the largest representative sample of LGBT men and women ever collected. Key findings include: Read more »

How Gay Republicans Lost Dismally When 2012 Should Have Been Their Year

This really could have been the year that the Log Cabin Republicans earned some respect from the GOP, as well as from Democrats, independents and LGBT activists of all stripes. Had the group of gay Republicans not endorsed Mitt Romney, which seemed like the plan early on, they'd be winners right now in the GOP and beyond. Instead, they proved to be irrelevant. Read more »

We've witnessed many Mitt Romneys, but the oneunearthed by the Boston Globe's Murray Waas yesterday is perhaps the most vicious and cruel: a zealot who, as Massachusetts governor, became hellbent on stigmatizing the children of gay and lesbian parents, labeling these kids as outcasts and causing them to suffer hardship throughout their lives. Scouting goes through a rough patch

(CNN) -- Disappointment, anger, disgust.
Words like these are echoing throughout social media about a national icon: The Boy Scouts of America.
To put it mildly, Scouting is going through a rough patch.
In July, the BSA national headquarters clarified its ban on gays and lesbians -- leaving it in place and triggering a national movement by hundreds of former Eagle Scouts to renounce their rank and return their treasured medals. Read more »

The Gay Soccer Dad and Lesbian Costco Mom Vote

The 2012 election may not be decided by gay soccer dads and lesbian Costco moms but their quality of life will be defined by those occupying the White House and Congress in 2013 and beyond.

While much of the conversation surrounding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of late has concerned the issue of marriage equality, there is much more to be said about the way our government treats LGBT Americans.

Over the past few decades great progress has been made in the fight for LGBT legal equality but I'm guessing many straight Americans -- even those with close friends and family who happen to be gay -- would be surprised to learn just how much is left to be done. Read more »

Mitt Romney Used His Private Foundation To Build Conservative Cred

Mitt Romney Used His Private Foundation To Build Conservative Cred

Mitt Romney's record of charitable giving reflects more than generosity. For a Republican presidential nominee who has struggled to be seen as right-wing enough for the GOP, he has deployed the right checks to the right places to help build his conservative credibility. And while many of those donations are not controversial, others have included checks to the religious right and an established anti-gay group.

The Romneys, of course, have been hugely generous to many causes -- most of them nonpolitical -- through their Tyler Charitable Foundation, and through their own personal checkbook. For more than a decade, their foundation has given millions to their church, along with health care charities, humanitarian causes, education and social groups. Read more »

Democrats poised to embrace gay marriage

Democrats poised to embrace gay marriage

Eight years after California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said the push for legalizing same-sex marriage was "too much, too fast, too soon," the Democratic Party will make history Tuesday when it is expected to be the first major party to endorse same-sex marriage in its platform.

While the plank packs no legal power, it marks a cultural milestone. Read more »
